Welcome to Exceptional Student Education!

We are extremely excited to begin another school year at Dommerich Elementary. The Dommerich ESE department provides services to students with varying exceptionalities, ranging from Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The ESE staff is committed to ensuring that ALL students are successful. We consist of teachers, paraprofessionals, Program Assistant,  Behavior Specialist, and a Staffing Specialist. We look forward to working with you and your child this year.

To assist us in providing the best educational experience for your child:

  • Please ensure that your child arrives to school on time each day. Every minute counts!
  • Inform us of any concerns or issues you may have regarding your child; communication is key!
  • Establish and maintain routines at home, so that your child can adjust to the routines and expectations at school.
  • Attend your child's IEP meetings because your input is valuable.
  • Become an ADDitions volunteer

Gifted Education

The purpose of gifted education is to provide programs and services that meet the unique cognitive, social, and emotional needs of gifted students, preparing them to succeed in a global society. Criteria focus on a learner's need for the gifted education program, general intellectual functioning, and various behavioral and intellectual characteristics. Gifted students come from all backgrounds with special abilities ranging across a wide spectrum of achievement. These students require special provisions to meet their educational needs.

Our Dommerich Gifted model includes students who have been identified as gifted being placed with a Gifted Endorsed teacher.  We also have a Gifted Resource teacher who provides additional support and enrichment for students.

Gifted Parent Presentation

Dommerich Elementary had the first Gifted "Chat 'n Chew," parent information session on March 28, 2018.  At the meeting parents learned about the different characteristics of gifted children and were given recommendations of parenting resources they could use to support their children's social and emotional needs. Parents were also given some great local, national, and digital enrichment options. There was a great turnout and Dommerich looks forward to hosting more "Chat 'n Chew," parent information sessions in the future.
